Easy Aldi Meal Idea: Chicken Cordon Bleu and Sides

Here’s another cheap and easy Aldi meal idea for families!  Today we look at a meal idea that involves the Aldi chicken cordon bleu.  These frozen chicken entrees are an inexpensive and delicious way to get a meal on the table that the whole family will enjoy.

At $0.99, the chicken cordon bleu is really a bargain and since they require no prep other than cooking them in the oven, they are good for busy nights when you don’t have a lot of time in the kitchen.

Pair it with a grain, pasta, or potato side and some fruit and veggies and you can put dinner on the table for a family of 4 for around $7.

Quick and Easy Aldi Meal Idea with Chicken Cordon Bleu

There are lots of sides you can add to these chicken cordon bleu to create an affordable meal but here is how we had it:

  • Chicken Cordon Bleu .99 x 4 (or how ever many you are feeding)  $3.96
  • Parmesan Coucous $1.49
  • Steamed Green Beans $0.78
  • Clementines  $1.00

Total estimated cost for 4 people: $7.23

You can substitute the couscous, veggies, and fruit for whatever you’re family prefers.  Aldi has a lot of options that will fit in the same price range.  Here’s some ideas:

  • French Fries
  • Tater Tots
  • Shells and Cheese
  • Mashed Potoatoes
  • Boxed Rice
  • Apples
  • Fruit Cups
  • Steamed Corn
  • Steamed Mixed Veggies
  • Steamed Broccoli

If you haven’t tried these chicken cordon bleu entrees from Aldi before, they are really quite good.  It’s basically breaded boneless chicken stuffed with ham, Swiss and American cheese.  They are filling and easy to prepare.  They just have to cook in the oven for about 40 minutes.

Aldi Product Review: Bremer Alfredo Chicken

August 5, 2020

Aldi product review - Aldi Bremer Alfredo Chicken review. A cheap, easy Aldi meal idea.

For today’s Aldi product review, we tried the Bremer Alfredo Chicken skillet meal. This is a year round product that Aldi offers in it’s frozen food section. Each bag contains 3 servings of one cup each and costs $3.49. We needed two bags to feed our family of four but we did end up with some leftovers so two bags could probably easily feed 5 or 6 if you needed it too, especially if you pair it with some bread and a salad.

The Bremer Alfredo Chicken is a skillet dish that contains pasta, broccoli, carrots, peas, and seasoned white meat chicken pieces that are in an Alfredo cheese sauce. It was easy to prepare and I was able to get it from freezer to our dinner plates in about 15 minutes time. Not bad for a quick meal. It does require you to use 3 tablespoons of melted butter per bag during the cooking process so if you are planning to give it a try!

The meal itself was pretty decent, especially considering the price. I was initially worried when I first dumped the bag into the pan that it was going to be a little stingy on the chicken but when we went to eat it, there was actually a fair amount and it ended up being satisfying meal. Another concern I often have with frozen meals is how salty they will be. A quick check of the label did reveal that it have 450mg of sodium per serving but it didn’t taste overwhelming when I ate it.

We enjoyed the Aldi Chicken Alfredo pasta dish paired with Aldi’s Southwest Chopped Salad. The whole meal cost $10 and feed the 4 or us with plenty leftover.

We ended up pairing our Bremer Alfredo Chicken meal with their Southwest Chopped Salad. All four of us (hubby, both my teenage boys, and I) all enjoyed the meal. I don’t see us eating it on a super regular basis but I wouldn’t hesitate to grab it again for a night when we need a quick and easy meal. I felt it was definitely worth the price. I would give this Aldi item a 4/5. Don’t buy it expecting a gourmet meal but if you need a meal that you can get on the table fast and that tastes decent, then you might want to give it a try.
